You mention in your final paragraph that preformed garden ponds are not as time consuming to install as constructing a pond and lining it with a protective underlay and pond liner, but you do still need to dig a hole to install a preformed pond - so the only time saving is that you don't need to lay the pond liner and smooth out any creases. And, it is even more important to ensure that the ground is level before installing a preformed pond . Someone in our village installed a preformed pond but the floor of the hole was not level and so the top of the preformed pond doesn't lie flush with the ground surface.
