The earliest account of Japanese gardens is found in the Nihon-shoki (Chronicles of Japan) written in the eighth century C.E. There we are told about a bridge and the representation of a mountain made in the southern court of the palace of Empress Suiko in the year 612. This seems to have been one of the first steps toward the development of landscape gardening as we know it today. Later, from 1185 until the restoration of Emperor Meiji in 1868, the country was under the rule of successive shoguns, or war lords. These men, though fighting bitter battles with one another, took great interest in landscape gardening. In some gardens the ponds and streams were enlarged to such an extent that the guests could enjoy a boat ride and admire the scenery from various vantage points. Some of these splendid gardens remain to the present day.
One striking example is the garden of the famous Kinkaku-ji, or Golden Pavilion, in Kyoto. This was built in 1397 by Yoshimitsu, third shogun of the Ashikaga family. Though the pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1950, it has since been restored. The pond and surrounding garden are reminders of the splendor enjoyed by the then-existing ruling class. One reason for the permanence of these old Japanese gardens is the use of rocks, sand and stone ornaments. Trees grow old, bamboo fences and thatched roofs decay, but the rocks remain in the form of stone bridges, lanterns, water basins and stepping-stones along the paths leading to the teahouse. Yes, ponds are among the most remarkable elements in Japanese gardens and are now even influencing a large population of garden enthusiasts today.

The person who coined that phrase had likely observed beavers at work damming a stream or building their home. Indeed, these animals seem tireless as they cut trees and haul the pieces to the construction site. At times, they even dig canals for floating building materials to the proper location. But how do beavers build their dams? First, to anchor the structure, they set branches into the bottom of the stream. If the course is wide, the beavers bow their embankment upstream to strengthen it against the current. Using more wood, they fill the span up to the proper height, and then they stop up holes with mud and stones. To make the dam sturdy, the beavers will brace it on the downstream side by setting branches into the streambed at an angle. These industrious creatures even make regular repairs to their handiwork!

A tranquil pond soon forms upstream. Here the beavers build secure living quarters—first a simple burrow in the riverbank while the dam is under construction and later an offshore, domed lodge of mud and sticks. To guard against predators, the beavers use underwater entrances. Safe inside, they rest and raise their young. Yes, beavers are indeed among the most amazing constructors of still established walls within a flowing stream. Their works are of high quality that the said stack of woods and branches are able to withstand water current for a long time.

Relating the Beavers’ Ways with Effective Koi Pond Construction

Through observing the procedures of construction practices that beavers try to apply in their daily living activities, on could learn the most basic and most practical approaches one could use to come up with the needed koi pond construction process for creating a sturdy koi pond. Of course, basing from the beavers’ ways, koi pond construction should always begin with a plan. With the right plan laid before the creators, koi pond construction would be a much easier task to handle. Other matters to consider could include the following:

Consider materials to be used – koi pond construction success depends on the kind of materials to be used. Rocks and pebbles could be well mixed with cement to make the walls of the ponds sturdy.
Consider other materials and gadgets to be used in the pond – picking the right gadgets and other materials to enhance maintenance of the pond could also be considered in making the koi pond construction plan. Doing so shall save the owner both time and effort needed to complete the said construction.

With these considerations placed into careful attention, koi pond construction would become a certain success. Even getting the koi pond supply needed for the said creation would become an easier task to complete.

Koi ponds are rare as they are naturally give a sense of relaxation to anyone having the chance to view the beauty of the said creation. However, to keep any koi pond continuously flouring in beauty, there are certain maintenance issues and procedures to be taken into consideration.

It could be observed that the said procedures of maintenance are not only made existent to be able to protect the beauty and aesthetic presentation of the pond but also to protect the living creatures living within the said created ecosystem. Koi fishes are constantly in need of fresh water. Besides that fresh water gives the entire pond a wonderful presentation. Clear waters naturally make it available for the viewers of the pond to see clearly through the waters and appreciate the swimming dances of the koi fishes along with all the alluring wonders of water creations beneath the pond.

However, changing the pond water regularly may be tiring. Hence, the use of koi pond pumps comes into an effective practicality for the owners of the said creations.

What are Koi Pond Pumps For?

Like regular fish tank pumps, Koi pond pumps do the same responsibility of maintaining the said natural creations. It could be noted that like other water pumps, the koi pond pumps naturally recycles and reuses the water of the pond making it less still. Through this, the flow of oxygen within the area becomes continuous making it easier for the living organisms within the said ecosystem to continuously live. Understandably, the koi pond pumps also bring in the possibility of keeping mosses away from the pond. This way, the water remains clear and the area becomes much breathable for the koi fishes to remain healthy and lively as well.

Through the effective installation of koi pond pumps within a koi garden pond, it could be realized that having a well-maintained clear watered pond would be possible with lesser efforts applied in the process. Owners of koi ponds could now better handle their responsibilities of caring for the garden pond in a more practical process. It should be realized that koi pond pumps could be easily installed even during koi pond construction.

It is undeniable that koi pond maintenance procedures may not be as easy as desired. However with the right assistance from modern technology, picking the right process of pond care needed to preserve a koi pond garden would become much of an easier task to complete.

When it comes to purchasing koi pond kits, there are several tips on buying the best koi pond kits that you should know. Learning about the different types of kits can be difficult while in the store and many sales professionals would not know how to help you with the decision without being able to see your plans for the koi pond for themselves. By following these simple tips for buying koi pond kits, you will ensure that you get the kit that best suits your needs.

The Size Of The Pond

One of the first tips for buying koi pond kits that you should keep in mind is that the size of the pond will mean a great deal for what kit you purchase. A kit that is smaller will be good for a small koi pond but will not be able to give you the desired effect for a larger koi pond. Finding a kit that is the right size for the pond you will be using it to create will make sure that you will be able to enjoy the koi pond in the way that you intended.

The koi pond kits should be purchased in the size that you actually need, not larger. The amount of water that the pump in the kit can handle is very important to the success of the pond and purchasing koi pond pumps that are too weak for the amount of water that will be in the pond may cause all of the fish to die and the water to cloud. By keeping the size of the kit close to the size that you actually need, you will be purchasing a kit that will be more efficient in the long run.

The Materials In The Kit

Another tip for buying koi pond kits is to carefully examine the materials used for the kit that are used to create the koi pond. Kits that use stronger materials for the creation of the pond tend to be of a better quality and last longer than the kits that are cheaper and use substandard materials. Koi pond kits that have higher quality parts are also easier to care for and will not require as much maintenance. By learning what you need to know about different types of kits before going out to purchase koi pond kits and following these tips on buying koi pond kits, you will be ensuring that you are getting the best product for your needs that will last for many years.

In the financial climate of today, many people are looking for ways to save money on different types of products, including for filters for their koi pond. If you are looking for a koi pond filter to replace the filter that is currently attached to your koi pond, you may want to consider a koi pond filter that costs less but works just as well. There are a number of different ways to find an inexpensive koi pond filter for your koi pond without spending too much or losing your sanity.

The Internet

One of the best places to find a koi pond filter is on the internet, where thousands of different retailers have their stores. Many of these websites will have koi pond kits for sale so that the homeowner will be able to obtain all of the merchandise that they need at a single location. Purchasing a koi pond filter from an online retailer can save you as much as 50% off of the regular price of the filter and the quality is no different that the filters that you would have seen in a retail store. This is one of the most inexpensive ways to obtain a koi pond filter and also provides the widest selection of filters because the homeowner can view the products of many different retailers at the same time to find the perfect filter for their needs at the best price.

Retail Locations

Many merchandisers that specialize in garden supplies and larger retail stores that carry an extensive selection of items may also have a gardening section in their stores that will have a koi pond filter available for purchase. Supplies for garden ponds are typically located in the home and garden section of the store or may also be located in an outside portion of the store that carries the plant nursery and larger garden products. The selection of koi pond filter found in these stores will be limited as many of these stores do not have a wide variety of koi pond products.

The quality of the koi pond filter purchased from the larger retail stores may not be as high as you would like, especially if you are placing the filter on a large, expensive pond. In many cases, these filters are from overseas manufacturers and are intended for people who just want a basic filter for the small pond in their garden. These pond filters are priced inexpensively so that the person will be able to easily change the koi pond filter when it becomes worn or damaged.

Starting a project to build a koi pond can be made much easier by following a few simple tips and tricks to make the project a success. The plan to build a koi pond should take a number of variables into account, such as the amount of room that you have to dedicate to the pond and the types of plants that you would like to place around the pond for décor. Here are some simple tips to build a koi pond that will be attractive and easy to care for as well.

How To Choose The Materials
There are many different types of items that can be used to enhance the allure of your koi pond, but most individuals tend to stick to a few varieties of plants and add koi to the pond that are sturdy and easy to care for. By sticking to plants and animals that are easy to care for when you build a koi pond, it reduces the amount of time needed to care for the pond and increases the pond’s chance of success. Individuals that choose items too difficult for them to take care of will quickly become frustrated and in time the plants and fish in the pond will die.

Another thing that you should take into consideration when you build a koi pond is the type of plants that they would like to place around the pond. Different plants have different needs and certain types of plants will not grow well if placed close to one another. Before you build a koi pond, it is important to research the plants that you would like to place around the koi pond and make sure that the area will meet the needs of the plants.

How To Choose The Location

It is important to choose the location of the koi pond carefully to obtain the maximum amount of enjoyment from the pond. Many people chose to build a koi pond that is close to the home because it will be close to where the items that are needed to care for the pond are stored and the beauty of the pond can be enjoyed from the patio or porch of the home. The plants and flowers that used around the koi pond have the tendency to attract different species of birds, butterflies, and insects which can add an element of untouched nature to the area where the pond is located.

When you build a koi pond, the placement of the pond should be chosen very carefully. The pond should not be placed near trees or bushes that will drop leaves into the water, resulting in a constant need to clean the pond. When you build a koi pond, it should be placed in an area that receives a good amount of sunlight to allow the aquatic plants to grow properly. The koi pond should only be placed in a shaded area if it is nothing but fish and rock features, such as a waterfall.

One of the easiest ways to add some unique décor to your garden is adding a koi pond to your garden. This type of feature can be a lovely and inexpensive way to enhance the allure of the garden and make it an even more beautiful oasis for the homeowner to relax in. Adding a koi pond to your garden will not be hard to accomplish if you are willing to take the time to learn what you will need to do to make the project a success.

Different Types Of Koi Pond

There are many different types of koi pond that may be added to a garden as a decorative touch. The most popular types of ponds are made out of stone and are designed to resemble a pond that could be found in nature. You can build a koi pond that looks natural in a variety of sizes, from very small to large enough that it may need special equipment to build properly.

Some individuals prefer a less traditional koi pond for their garden, creating a more unique appearance for the entire area. These types of ponds can be made out of many different materials, including metal, plastic, or glass. The type of koi pond chosen for the garden will depend on the type that appeals to the gardener the most and that fits in the best with the image of the garden.

Obtaining The Materials

Individuals that are interested in adding a koi pond to their garden have a number of different options for obtaining that is needed to create their pond. The most popular option for obtaining the objects that are needed to create the pond is purchasing the items from the neighborhood nursery or garden store. These stores will typically have several types of material options available for purchase in their stores and may be able to answer any questions that you may have regarding the size, placement, or installation instructions for adding the koi pond to your garden.

There are also a number of retail stores that will have koi pond kits available for purchase that the gardener can install themselves in the course of a few hours. The selections at some of these stores may be limited to only a few different types, but some retail stores specialize in materials for different types of ponds so they will have a much wider selection to choose from than other stores. If the gardener is unable to find a style of koi pond that they like and are willing to spend some extra money, then they may find that ordering a custom made koi pond kit from a company is their best option for getting the type of pond that they desire.
